The BAR 003 was the successor to the BAR 002 and powered by the Honda RA001e for the 2001 Formula One season.
Jacques Villeneuve was the lead driver who was in his third year with the BAR team. Olivier Panis made up the pairing for BAR, who had been McLaren's test driver whilst he took a year out of racing as an F1 competitor.
The BAR display in 2000 had redeemed to some degree the dreadful showing in the team’s debut season in 1999. 2001 held high hopes for a continued improvement with regular podium shows and wins for the year. However, the team took a major step back as the car suffered from handling problems caused by the chassis lacking rigidity.
