The BAR 004 was the Honda RA002E powered F1 car the British American Racing team had developed for the 2002 Formula One season. Jacques Villeneuve and Olivier Panis at the wheels, there were high hopes and expectations for the season. Jordan was now also a Honda works powered team and nipping at the heels of the BAR team with better performances in the 2001 season.

The 2002 test programme began at Barcelona for the all-new Honda RA002E with the Lucky Strike BAR Honda put through its pace at a five-day test in Barcelona, Spain. The RA002E F1 engine was run for the first time after the enforced winter break, with Olivier Panis taking to the track in his BAR Honda 004, the only 2002 spec car to have run on the Catalunya circuit to date. Panis completed 19 laps and recorded a fastest time of 1m21.909s. Test driver Anthony Davidson was also on the track in a 2001 spec car, and posted a fastest time of 1m21.621s after 29 laps, giving Honda engineers an insight to the coming grand prix season perhaps, starting with the Australian Grand Prix on 3 March.

As the season progressed the car proved to be unreliable, having an appalling start for such a high ranking team which saw them failing to score a single championship point during the first half of the season. Olivier Panis failed to finish the first seven races. The team were to scored their first points when both cars finished in the points with fourth and fifth positions at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The team finished eighth in the Constructors' Championship with just 7 points.

The EJ12 was the second Jordan F1 car to use the RA002E Honda works engine. The EJ12 was a large step forward for Jordan as not only did they now have a ‘works’ engine from Honda, but they redesisged much of the chassis, suspension system and body structure, as well as using new materials to make the car both lighter and more efficient.

The car's cooling system has further been re-configured, reducing its weight, whilst the seven speed gearbox was a revised version of the 2001 unit, redesigned into a package that put it into a lower position with the casing optimised for stiffness.

New regulations imposed for the 2002 season by the FIA have made the electrical power steering system illegal, forcing teams to design a new power assisted steering systems.

The EJ12 was to prove more capable than BAR Honda, the other team powered by the Honda RA002E.

Jordan Honda EJ12 drivers for 2002 were Giancarlo Fisichella and Takuma Sato

Jordans EJ12 wouldbe the last season with Honda, 2003 using the Ford Cosworth RS1.
